Makalu Base Camp Trekking, the trek to the base of fifth highest mountain in the world called Makalu is one of the most adventurous and amazing trekking routes of Nepal. Makalu Base Camp Trekking is not only because of its route to the base of eight –thousander mountain but also having the unprecedented experiences about the culture and customs of some of the prominent ethnic communities of Nepal such as Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, Gurung and Magar.
The Makalu Base Camp Trekking offers the magnificent views of greenery forest, panoramic villages and terraced land along the road would magnetize you more than anything else leading you to the northern east part of Nepal. The beautiful natural atmosphere of Makalu Base Camp Trekking would definitely let you forget the fatigue and tiring long trek of almost six to seven hours each day.
Ranging from an altitude of 800 meter on the level of Arun River to an elevation of 4700 meter from sea level at Sherson, the Makalu Base Camp Trekking begins the flight route from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar, the rest of the Makalu Base Camp Trekking demands the exercise and stamina of legs along with the body.
Lush surrounding, sub-tropical forest, terraced field, cloud forest, alpine valley, snow-capped mountains and gigantic glaciers are the eye-catching and awe-inspiring sights to be enjoyed during this unbelievable and incredible trail. The mountain Makalu measures the height of 8485 meter to be recorded as the fifth highest mountain in the world. The distant of about 19 kilometers to the southeast from the highest summit of the world Mountain Everest, it lies on the Mahalangur Himalayan Range.
Base Camp Trekking route enters into the protected zone of Makalu Barun National Park which is the eighth national park of Nepal established in 1992 AD.
Inside this protected area more than 16 mountains has been counted. It’s also been the protected area with highest level of altitude. so, Makalu Base Camp Trekking is one of the interesting and nice trekking.

Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)
The journey starts with your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport where you will be warmly greeted by our representative. He will accompany you to the hotel and introduce you to the company officials. After a brief introduction, pack the necessities for the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and drive to Chichira (1980m)
Once you indulge in a delicious breakfast, proceed to the airport and make your way to Tumlingtar. The flight lasts approximately an hour and provides an amazing view of the surrounding mountains and landscape. Upon arriving at the airport, we shall get on a private vehicle and drive to the Gurung settlement called Chichira. It will be our resting spot for the day. Overnight in Chichira.
Day 03: Trek from Chichira to Num (1560m)
In order to make the trek easier, we shall be practicing morning yoga and evening meditation. After breakfast, find your way through the quaint and picturesque villages and finally arrive at Num. We need to cross a ridge to reach here too. Once at Num, be sure to complete the meditation and taste the local cuisine. Overnight in Num.
Day 04: Trek from Num to Seduwa (1500m)
After completing the yoga session, walk along the beautifully decorated trail that goes alongside the Barun river. We will be officially entering the Makalu Barun National Park. After registering the permits, we walk for a while to arrive at Seduwa. This quaint village is a great hub to practice meditation. Overnight in Seduwa.
Day 05: Trek from Seduwa to Tashigaon (2100m)
Once the yoga session is sorted, we shall walk on a ridge that provides us glimpses of the Kasuwa Khola and the Ipsuwa Khola. Admire the gorgeous view of the green hills, and after traversing through the paddy fields, we arrive at Tashigaon. Interact with the locals and complete the meditation to call it a day. Overnight in Tashigaon.
Day 06: Trek from Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3500m)
The road from today will be a bit tough but the morning yoga and meditation session will help you to easily cross it. Walk along the elevated trail that is beautifully decorated with forests. Walk past a grazing ground and cross the rocky steps too. Climb on top of a ridge and finally arrive at Khongma Danda. Complete meditation in this small settlement here. Overnight in Khongma Danda.
Day 07: Acclimatization day
To prepare ourselves for the upcoming treks, we shall take a rest today. Complete the morning yoga session and take a quick stroll around this small village. Interact with the locals and learn about the culture prevailing in these parts. After resting, have a healthy dinner and complete the meditation. Overnight in Khongma Danda.
Day 08: Trek from Khongma Danda to Dobate (3500m)
Once you complete the yoga, we shall head out to the summit of the Shipton La Pass. The journey is filled with numerous landmarks like the Kalo Pokhari and the delightful Keke la pass. Admire the picturesque view of mountains like Chamlang, Peak 6, and Peak 7. Finally arrive at Dobate after trekking for 6-7 hours. You can even skip the meditation session if you are too tired. Overnight in Dobate.
Day 09: Trek from Dobate to Yangri Kharka (3557m)
In this elevated village, it might be a bit difficult to practice yoga but it must go on. Once it is concluded, cross the rhododendron filled forests that lead right to the Barun River. The road is a bit steep and after walking for about 5 hours, we shall arrive at Yangri Kharka. This is a grazing ground for the animals. It is a great opportunity to practice meditation in the grasslands. Overnight in Yangri Kharka.
Day 10: Trek from Yangri Kharka to Langmale Kharka (4410m)
Complete the yoga session and after a healthy breakfast, make your way to Langmale kharka. As you proceed ahead, you can admire the surreal view of the faraway snowy mountains and walk past green pastures. We arrive at a grassland called Langmale kharka after trekking for 6-7 hours. Take a much-needed rest and then conclude the meditation. Overnight in Langmale Kharka.
Day 11: Trek from Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp (4870m)
Today we shall head to the major landmark of this trek, which is called the Makalu Base Camp. The road goes along Shershong and after traversing the snowy terrain, we arrive at the Makalu Base Camp. At the base camp, we can observe the sheer magnitude of the Makalu mountain. We shall reside in a camp and here, we will finish the meditation. Overnight in Makalu Base Camp.
Day 12: Exploring the Makalu Base Camp
Finish the yoga session in the vicinity of the Makalu base camp and then venture out into the huge Barun glacier beyond it. Admire the surreal view of the southern picture of Makalu and even observe the colossal Mount Everest and Lhotse. Interact with other travelers and complete the meditation to rest. Overnight in Makalu Base Camp.
Day 13: Trek from Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka
From today, we shall begin our descent back to the Kathmandu valley. Once you complete the yoga session, we shall follow the same route that we had previously used. Walk down the steep trail and cross Shershong and Langmale Kharka. After descending for a day, we finally arrive at Yangri Kharka. Complete the meditation session and rest for the day. Overnight in Yangri Kharka.
Day 14: Trek from Yangri kharka to Dobate
The descent continues today too. We shall first complete the mandatory yoga and then descend through rocky cliffs and green forests. The road is prone to mules and yaks. Interact with the locals and finally arrive at Dobate. After you finish the meditation, be sure to taste the local cuisine. Overnight in Dobate.
Day 15: Trek from Dobate to Khongma Danda
After we finish the morning yoga session, we will begin the journey. The trek initially sees a steep climb that goes to Mumbuk. From here, it passes a forest of firs and rhododendrons. Find yourself in the vicinity of the Shipton La Pass and the mighty Kauma La pass too. Make your way back to the Khongma Danda after the harsh climbing. Once the meditation is sorted, call it a day. Overnight in Khongma Danda.
Day 16: Trek from Khongma Danda to Tashigaon
Our journey to Kathmandu continues today also. We shall complete the meditation session and then walk the same trail that we previously used. Admire surreal pictures of green hills and thick forests. Arrive at Tashigaon, which is mostly inhabited by the Sherpas. Once the meditation is sorted, interact with the locals. Overnight in Tashigaon.
Day 17: Trek from Tashigaon to Seduwa
Finish the morning yoga session and make your way out of the esteemed Makalu Barun National Park. The trail goes along the Barun river and later goes on the side of a hill. Cross small settlements along the way before finally arriving at Seduwa. Complete the meditation to call it a day. Overnight in Seduwa.
Day 18: Trek from Seduwa to Num
Day 19: Trek from Num to Tumlingtar
Day 20: Fly from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu
Day 21: Kathmandu valley sightseeing
