Nepal is a beautiful country with lots of beautiful landmarks and places. The country located in the Himalayas is famous for its mesmerizing destinations and locations. Nepal is a small country that is located between the big countries India and China. The country is in South Asia and has no direct access to the sea. Nepal is among some countries in the world that do not have direct access to the sea and are completely landlocked.
Sea is one of the most beautiful elements of the country which adds trade and strategical advantage in the addition of beauty and site. However, the absence of sea and ocean on its border does not diminish the beauty of the country by one bit. Nepal despite not having sea and ocean is known for its beautiful water resources. The lakes and rivers in Nepal, are something to be seen while visiting the country. The country is divided into zones and districts by rivers also. The east border and west border of Nepal with India are also separated by two rivers Mechi in the east and Mahakali in the west.
The question that arises is How Nepal is a landlocked country that is located inside the big masses India and China inside huge landmass have such huge reservoirs of water. What makes the Lakes and rivers of Nepal so rich in water. The answer to this question lies in the Himalayas and the monsoon.
Himalayas
The Himalayas are the peaks range that passes through the uppermost part of Nepal. The upper region of the country is surrounded by these peaks all over. The upper part is the mountain region and has a very complex topography. Alongside the mountains and peaks, the place is also the home of huge glaciers. The Himalayan region is home to one of the most ancient glaciers on the earth and is the reservoir to the huge amount of water in ice form. Many of the flowing water sources of Nepal, lakes, and rivers of Nepal originates in these glaciers. The glaciers are very ancient and everchanging and moving due to the forces like friction and gravity. Whatever may be one fact is absolute that they are the great source of water and rivers of Nepal and provide fresh water to the water sources.
Monsoon season
Monsoon is the rainy season of Nepal. It is unique in the way that it is the mass of clouds that gets formed in the Bay of Bengal (northwest side of Indian ocean) and travels to Nepal and neighboring countries. This rain is the major source of water all over the country. The rain replenishes the country with a significant amount of water in many forms. The monsoon rain also enables the country to grow rice. This is true for the farmers who are dependent on the monsoon rain for the farming of rice.

Phoksundo Lake
Shey Phoksundo Lake lies in the phoksundo national park in the upper region of Nepal. It is the alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake located at the height of 3611m from sea level. It is one of the lakes at the highest altitude. The phoksundo lake lies in the very remote region of Nepal and quite a day of trekking is required to reach this region. Tlicho lake
Tlicho lake was before the finding of the kajin Sara Lake in Nepal was considered as the lake located at the highest altitude in the world. The lake is in the Manang district of Nepal. The lake lies at the astonishing altitude of 4919m from sea level. The length of the lake is 4km and is considered one of the most beautiful lakes of Nepal. People need to trek for days to reach this region. The region is very remote and extremely high in the mountains. Phewa lake
Phewa lake is located at the heart of Pokhara city. It is the most popular lake of Nepal, and it also is the lake that gets the greatest number of visitors more than any other lake in Nepal. This lake is the only lake that is in the city. The very presence of this lake enhances the beauty of Pokhara city. Everyone who visits Pokhara city visits this lake. This lake also has Tal barahi temple inside it so it also is the major holy site for the Hindu peoples. Barahi is a Hindu goddess and the temple is extremely popular among the Hindu peoples all around the world. The lake has an area of 4.43km sq. With an altitude of 742m from the sea level. The length of the lake is 4km with a width of 9km.
Gokyo lakes
Gokyo lakes are the sets of lakes that are located high in the Himalayas. Gokyo lakes are located at an elevation of 4700 to 5000m from the sea levels. The lakes are the center of attraction for many trekkers who takes these trekking routes and go to visit them. Gokyo lakes are located near the Gokyo village and are incredibly beautiful to look at. Gokyo lakes are the highest freshwater lake in the world. There are quite a number of Gokyo lakes, among which there are six which are main. Among the six lakes also Thonak is the largest. Gokyo lake is the main attraction or spot for the trekkers who go there for Gokyo lake trekking. It is also the route for the three passes trekking and trekking in the Everest regions.
Koshi river
Koshi river is one of the largest rivers in Nepal. The river is also known as the saptakoshi as the main river is formed by the combination of the seven smaller rivers. These seven smaller rivers of Nepal combine to form the gigantic Koshi which is exceptionally large, beautiful, and has a large amount of water flowing. The Koshi river is 720km long and runs through Tibet, Nepal, and India. The river is beautiful and exceptionally large. People around the region use this river for many things. This river in Nepal is also the source of tourism and source of attraction for various river lovers. People enjoy boating and rafting in koshi river love to spend time at the bank of the river. Certain places have large sandy banks which provide the perfect place to chill enjoy and spend time.
Gandaki river
Gandaki river in Nepal is one of the most famous rivers of Nepal. The river in Nepal is also sometimes called the Kali Gandaki river due to the black appearance of the river. The length of the river is 814km and is one of the longest rivers of Nepal. The river is incredibly famous as it is considered very holy by the Hindu people.
The river is unique because the river is filled with smooth black stones which the Hindu people worship as Saligram. Saligram is considered as the stone form of Lord Vishnu and is worshipped as him. Looking scientifically Saligram is ancient fossil that is only found in the Gandaki river area. As the Saligram (Stone form of lord Vishnu) is found nowhere in the world other than there, this river in Nepal is incredibly famous. Yearly many come to visit and pay their respect and worship to this river in Nepal.
Trishuli
Trishuli is one of the popular and big rivers of Nepal. The river originates in Tibet and flows through Nepal. As it moves into Nepal from Tibet its flow and sizes increase vastly. Trishuli river has a length of 200km. The river is most famous and well known to the Nepalese people as the river flows alongside the Prithvi highway. Prithvi highway is the major way that is used by the peoples to come outside and go inside the Kathmandu valley. As this river flows along this route most people know about it and may have visited it at least once in their life. Many settlements are made on the banks of the Trishuli river. Trishuli river in Nepal is also famous for rafting and the enjoyable view and environment along its banks.
Bagmati river
Bagmati river is one of the holiest rivers in Nepal. The river originates at the peak of the Shivapuri forest. The place of origin of the Bagmati river is called Baagdwar, from there the river flows. The river runs through the Kathmandu valley. The river separates the city of Kathmandu from the cities of Lalitpur or ancient Patan. In the early period, the path of Bagmati was used to separate the kingdom inside the Kathmandu valley. The length of the Bagmati River in Nepal is 586km.
Bagmati flows alone inside of Nepal, however when it reaches Bihar it gets mixed with the Koshi river of Nepal. Bagmati flows in various parts of Kathmandu valley, it flows along the side of Gokarneshor Mahadev, Pashupati, and other temples in Kathmandu valley. It has exceedingly high significance among the Hindu peoples and the peoples of the Kathmandu valley. In recent times this river in Nepal got polluted by the high population and unmanaged pollution. However, the people and government and people are making a big effort to clean Bagmati. After sometime this river in Nepal will be as it was in the past, clean, and beautiful.
Rapti river
The length of the Rapti river in Nepal is 600km. The river flows in the mid-western part of Nepal and finally enters India. After entering India, the river gets mixed with Ghaghara River in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. People enjoy in Rapti river of Nepal doing many things. Marsyangdi river
Marshyangdi river of Nepal is not as popular as the other river in Nepal but it has a significant role for the people that live around its banks. The river is also small in length compared to the other giant rivers in Nepal. The length of this river is about 150km. Unlike some of the big rivers in Nepal Marsyangdi originates in Nepal. Khangsar Khol and Jharsang khola two mix to form this river in Nepal. This happens at the Manang district of Nepal at an altitude of 3600m from sea level. The river after its origination in Manang districts flows towards the Lamjung district of Nepal. The river in Nepal is famous for its adventure activities like rafting, swimming, kayaking, and other fun adventure activities.
Bheri river
Bheri River flows on the west side of Nepal. The river flows near the western Dhaulagiri range in Nepal. The length of the river is 264km and is not if the other big rivers in Nepal. There are also two Bhrsi river, Sani Bheri and Thuli Bheri river in Nepal. The river flows in the west part of Nepal in the places like Surkhet. The Bheri river after this gets mixed with the Karnali river.
